Animal Defenders Event

Otara Foundation organized its very first event to educate children on the importance of treating animals (both wild and domestic) with compassion and kindness.  Titled Animal Defenders, the event was held in September and October of 2016, and attended by close to 400 children from areas as far as Polonnaruwa and Amblangoda.

With a focus on educating the next generation on protecting Sri Lanka’s wildlife and environment; the event was designed to be both educational and interactive. The itinerary included role play sessions on the importance of animals living free, presentations by experts on the importance of Sri Lanka’s fauna and the many challenges being faces by animals island-wide, a puppet show highlighting the importance of practicing kindness and compassion towards all animals and an art workshop. Nine winners were chosen and received prizes at the event for their art submitted under the theme ‘Life of animal in the zoo’.
